Levels of Change

Judging the level of reduced pollution is difficult. Below please find an explanation for the logic behind the labels.

Significant:

Change is achieved by ending the behavior, the use of a product, or the consumption of a resource.

Metaphor: Emergency braking

Noticeable:

Change is achieved by reducing the total pollution/ energy consumption of a necessary behavior or product.

Metaphor: Applying the brakes

Not enough:

Change is very small and irrelevant if other changes do not take place beforehand.

Positive change is achieved by using a wasteful, luxurious, and unnecessary product and/or behavior that pollutes less than another wasteful, luxurious, and unnecessary product and/or behavior.

Metaphor: Easing of the gas pedal
